Nissan LEAF electric car teams up with inventor Hamish Scott to use their environmentally-friendly, UV powered paint on their EVs.

According to a Nissan press release:

EV glows in the dark

Nissan LEAF glows in the dark using free solar power

Even though glowing car paint has previously been available using glow-in-the-dark car wraps, this will be first time that a major car maker seeks to deploy the technology using entirely organic materials. The paint uses the biologically inert natural earth product called Strontium Aluminate to create ultraviolet-energized paint, which could have a 25 year lifespan.

The trailblazing move by Nissan helps to showcase how their all-electric car (the Nissan LEAF) can use free solar energy not only for transportation, but also increased visibility and safety as well.

Hamish Scott first used the technology to produce their STARPATH product, which is a spray coating that absorbs UV energy during the day, which then continues to glow for approximately eight and 10 hours after the sun goes down.

It is only fitting that Nissan use the glow in the dark paint technology to promote their electric cars. Many LEAF owners have been able to reduce their household carbon footprint and also effectively charge their EV for free, using solar power and free to use electric car charging networks in over a dozen USA cities.
